Free resources for carers and their families

If you are a family member or carer for an older person, you may be interested in new free online modules about aged care.

The Equip Aged Care Learning Packages, developed by the University of Tasmania’s Wicking Dementia Centre, provides practical and relevant information to carers or family members of older people.

The learning packages covers topics such as:

  • supporting people living with dementia
  • prevention of falls
  • palliative and end of life care.

Modules covering ‘The Australian Aged Care System’, and ‘The Aged Care Quality Standards’ may also be helpful in providing families with a better understanding of the aged care system.

Each module takes around 10-minutes to complete and are accessible from your phone, tablet or computer.

A free, downloadable certificate of completion is available for each module, with an additional certificate available on completion of all modules.

These resources are also a great starting point for anyone interested in pursuing a career in aged care. An introductory package has been developed and designed specifically for people who have not previously worked in aged care. There is also a refresher package for people currently working in the field.

Since its establishment in 2008, the Wicking Dementia Centre has become a global leader in dementia education. Two of their online courses; Understanding Dementia and Preventing Dementia have reached over 640,000 enrolments across 185 countries.
