Apply to become a regulatory food safety auditor

Introduction

To become a regulatory food safety auditor, you need to submit an application to the NSW Food Authority.

Eligibility

You must have completed:

  • a Certificate IV in Food Science and Technology or related field course
  • 40 hours of food microbiology
  • all of the following units:
    • assess compliance with food safety programs
    • communicate and negotiate to conduct food safety audits
    • conduct food safety audits
    • identify, evaluate and control food safety hazards.

In addition to the above requirements, high risk auditor applicants must also have completed at least one of the following units:

  • audit a cook chill process
  • audit manufacturing of ready-to-eat meat products
  • audit a heat treatment process
  • audit bivalve mollusc growing and harvesting processes.

What you need

  • the PDF form – 'Application for approval as a regulatory food safety auditor'
  • your auditor certificate
  • certified copies of your training qualification and valid units of competency
  • evidence of your professional indemnity/public liability insurance policy
  • proof of identity as indicated on the form
  • your payment.

How to apply

  1. Select the 'Download PDF form' button.
  2. Complete, print and sign the form.
  3. Gather the required documents.
  4. Submit your application with payment by mail, fax or email, to the details on the form.

The NSW Food Authority will contact you within 10 working days.
